Where to Watch the July Fourth Fireworks in DC

It’s not really July Fourth unless you end the day watching epic fireworks light up the sky, right? There are few things in this country more patriotic than watching red, white, and blue fireworks light up our nation’s capital, which lucky for us is our backyard. The show begins at 9 p.m. so there’s plenty of opportunities to have your cookout and then head downtown to stake out a viewing spot.

Here are some of the top places to catch the most festive fireworks in the area:

  • The National Mall. There are few things more moving than seeing the fireworks light up the monuments surrounding the mall, and there’s plenty of space to set up camp with a blanket and some friends.

  • From the water. Many people don’t think about getting out on the water! There are so many cruise companies that do special 4th of July events that will provide sprawling views of the show.

  • Head up high. Hit up a rooftop bar with soaring views of the city to enjoy the show with a festive cocktail. You can also head to Washington National Cathedral area which is one of the highest viewpoints in the city.
